Consumers can expect retail gas prices to rise to $4 a gallon in the near future, Ben Brockwell, director of pricing at the Oil Price Information Service, said Wednesday. "There's no question gas will hit $4 a gallon," he said. "The question is how high will it go and how long will it last?"

I work in the rental car industry and when I ordered diesel and unleaded fuel today I was only able to find one supplier out of 5 that had fuel for me to buy. They could not even qoute me a price.

All this talk about Dubya letting out the oil reserve will do little for near term gasoline prices.

Where are they going to REFINE the OIL into GASOLINE since American refineries were running at 95% + capacity before the storm. Also, much of the refining capacity was located in Louisiana.

Unleaded gasoline in the front month is up another 40 cents today! The trailing months adding another 10 cents today.

RNman, we have discussed this topic for months. Let it be known I find no humor in people dying as result of this storm.

If you live in the region or have loved ones there, may the recovery effort be swift and efficient. I will be donating clothes to a local church once I am aware where to dropoff. I do not donate money for these types of events for it always seems to go into the wrong hands.

However, I do find humor in you folks driving tanks and tractor pull type trucks to work paying a higher price to enjoy your wasteful vehicles.

RNman, If it is your wallets' misery, then yes I am celebrating for you have stated in the past you did not care about high gas prices.

I feel bad for the honest working people that struggle day to day as they are helpless to these higher prices.

Gas in Hawaii

Gas in Waikiki hit 3.68 for medium grade today. Rumors are 4.00 coming soon to Hilo and parts of Maui.

So do I. You know as well as I that you are happier than hell that the fuel prices are skyrocketing. It doesn't bother me, but I know it bothers others, so not sure why you are showing off your celebratory mood in the your post previous to this one, that's all.

People saw rising prices in other parts of the country and then lined up to avoid paying even more later today or tomorrow. Mob mentality I guess. Bad timing though, the holiday weekend is making it tough. If it weren't for this a lot of people could just wait it out a few days and the prices will come back down. But since demand is very high for the weekend and the midwest and south are going to be a little short due to lost refineries, this mess happens. Out here in Vegas a few stations have jacked up the price a dime or so, but others haven't even budged. I did hear the independent stores though are getting the squeeze because the name brand stores are getting first dibs at whats available.

What might run prices down quickly is if this run on gas causes it to be a lackluster holiday on the roads. If reports come in gas prices led people to shun the driving getaway the prices could snap back pretty quick. In any case I think for those paying over $3 this week, I would feel almost certain next week you will be paying less than now.
